3 Mistakes Bloggers Make

The 3 Common Mistakes On Blogs

As a digital marketer and an avid follower of the blogging world, I’ve had the privilege of working with and observing various blogging styles and strategies.

While many bloggers excel in their craft, especially storytelling, I’ve noticed a few recurring mistakes that can hinder their success.  I’m sharing what three of these common blogging blunders are and how to avoid them:

1. Neglecting SEO Strategy

The Mistake: It’s not uncommon to come across bloggers who create outstanding content but overlook the critical aspect of search engine optimization (SEO).

Why it Matters: Neglecting SEO can limit a blog’s visibility and reach, making it harder to connect with a broader audience.

How to Avoid it: Invest time in understanding SEO basics, conduct keyword research, optimize your content for search engines, and stay updated with SEO trends and algorithm changes.

2. Having An Irregular Posting Schedule

The Mistake: Some talented bloggers start strong but struggle to maintain a consistent posting schedule.

Why it Matters:  Imagine finding great tv show but it’s never on at the same time and you never know when a new episode is being released.  Frustrating, right? An irregular posting schedule can lead to reader frustration and diminish a blog’s credibility.

How to Avoid it: Create a content calendar and commit to a realistic posting schedule. Consistency is key to retaining and growing your audience.

3. Minimal Promotion Efforts

The Mistake:  Many bloggers believe that exceptional content alone will attract a substantial audience without active promotion.

Why it Matters: Even the most outstanding content needs promotion to reach its full potential and connect with a wider audience.

How to Avoid it: Incorporate promotion into your blogging strategy. Share your posts on social media, engage in relevant online communities, and collaborate with fellow bloggers.

Getting Results From Blogs

Graph with results that bloggers see from their blogs

One in four bloggers stated they see strong results from their blogs. In order to do this, you have to know what audience you are brining it. Part of doing that is also ensuring that you perform keyword research, have appropriate headlines, and understand how search engines crawl sites so that you show up in search results.

Driving Results To Your Blog

While SEO will give you a lift, to drive results to your blog you’ll want to promote on social media. The graph below from OrbitMedia.com shows that 92% of bloggers drive traffic to their site via social media. This is followed by email marketing (yes, you should start that email list!!) and SEO.

Share Your Challenges

These are just a few of the common blogging mistakes that I’ve observed. The beauty of the blogging journey is that there’s always room for growth and improvement. By recognizing these pitfalls and actively working to avoid them, you can improve your blogging game and set yourself on a path to success.

What are some other blogging challenges or mistakes you’ve come across, and how do you address them in your own blogging journey?
